ST. PETERSBURG: The production based on the story of A. Platonov was presented by the Youth Theater on Fontanka

78

The appeal of the Youth Theater on Fontanka to the work of Andrei Platonov, a writer and playwright who passed the Civil and Great Patriotic Wars, is not accidental. One of the most notable prose writers of the first half of the twentieth century in his works brought out many amazing, deep and fragile human worlds. Platonov's description of the destinies, feelings and experiences of people is so accurate and real that his texts do not let go for a long time, they are forced to turn to them again and again.

The path to the readers of the story "The Return" (in the first publication of 1946 – "The Ivanov Family"), describing the internal breakdowns and difficult decisions of the heroes who survived the war – in the rear and at the forefront, was difficult. The idea of the story was born from... a screenplay that never materialized into a film. Despite the plausibility and the post-war ordinariness of a case from the life of one family, the text was subjected to ideological editing more than once during the author's lifetime. The hard hand of the editor-censor removed whole phrases, erased traces of poverty, lack of education from the life of the characters, corrected even the age of the actors. This did not save Platonov from the accusation that the main character, placed by the author at the crossroads of the choice of rejection or forgiveness, is frivolous and unworthy of the title of a Soviet officer. But the story told by Andrey Platonov is much thinner and more complex than all possible cliches and cliches. This is a story of pain, choice, internal struggle, careful attitude to human life. The premiere will show how close and understandable the plot, characteristic of the events of 80 years ago, is to today's audience…
